4.6.4. Partners, Documents and Portal Users
Babelway offers an advanced module that exploits the combination of Partners, Documents, and Portal Users to allow you to expose subsets of message information to a certain audience. This is particularly interesting if you offer services to third parties and you wish to provide them with business views of the message traffic that concerns them.
For example, let's say you are a large supplier of goods. You use Babelway extensively. This means you possibly receive all your purchase orders through Babelway. Your invoices are dispatched through Babelway and your shipment information transits through our system. Thus, if you were to build documents tracking all these states of a purchase order you could decide to grant access to your suppliers directly to the platform for them to look up the latest status of their orders in real time.
This can be achieved by:
- Creating Babelway partners for each of your trading partners. For example maybe you supply Rome GA's CVS in Tylenol. CVS Rome would become a registered partner:
- Creating documents in Babelway that reference partners. You can create any type of document but for the sake of our example, what you are trying to share is information pertaining to tracking orders. Thus, you could create a Purchase order document type which would contain the fields of original orders but also a link to an invoice document, possibly an invoice date, a shipment status etc.
- Linking partners to documents. You now have a Purchase order document type. You will need to use document extractors to create the original purchase order document every time a matching purchase order message comes through the platform. When you configure this extraction, select the partner you want to use.
- Granting portal user access to certain partners. Last but not least, you can invite individual users from these different partner organizations granting them access to the partner they come from. When these users log in, they will get a very different Babelway interface with only access to the Purchase Order menu and the list will only contain documents they have access to through the partner relationship:
Partner / Document Relationships
The same way you can associate partners with messages, you can also associate partners with documents. To do this, add partner fields to your document. If you use portal users, you can then expose subsets of these documents to portal users.
